On this week where residents of America traditionally gather to give thanksgiving for the year behind them and ahead of them, the Buffalo News rings in with a timely editorial in support of the Millionaires Tax in NY, clarifying that, “The tax recognizes that no one became rich in a vacuum. School systems, vast public infrastructure, public safety services and assorted government-provided protections helped make personal fortunes possible”
New Deal groups participating in the National Fuel Accountability campaign in Western New York secured a major victory on October 13, securing nearly $19 million in new weatherization funds for low-income communities.

Parents, students, teachers and other community members working with Alliance for Quality Education have kicked off a statewide week of action to tell their stories about how school cuts are impacting our communities. As students return to the classroom, it’s clear to everyone - School Cuts Hurt.

Last night, on Sept. 14, New Deal groups, along with allies from NY Communities for Change, crashed the annual benefit dinner for the NYS GOP (Republican Party) at a Midtown Manhattan hotel. We distributed hundreds of flyers inside the fundraiser, in the hotel, and out on the street.
And here's a WNYC piece that included a bit about the action, saying we "walked through shouting 'GOP get a clue about revenue!' They handed out colorful flyers in support of the millionaire’s tax before being escorted out by hotel security." And another piece from NY Daily News' Daily Politics blog.
Maintaining the constant action that New Deal groups have been undertaking recently, Rev. Bruce McKay and VOICE-Buffalo leaders delivered letter this morning (Sept 14) to Senator Charles Schumer. They hand delivered a letter with urgency calling on the senator to “take bold action for ALL New Yorkers.”

New Deal groups moved to on-site and online action this morning when we learned that Crain's New York was to host Empire State Development Corp CEO Kenneth Adams. Above is a picture with VOCAL members outside the breakfast at The Yale Club in Midtown Manhattan, while below is a printup of the transcript from the Twitter rally online at #AdamsForum that we participated in with a broad range of allies. The online rally directly resulted in specific questions getting posed to Ken Adams at the breakfast itself.
