It’s been a very busy week, and there is lots more to come!
Yesterday, New Yorkers from New Deal, Citizen Action, MoveOn, Strong Economy for All and others, participated in a hit on the state Business Council, which co-chairs the Committee to Save NY. The Business Council was meeting to discuss their upcoming legislative agenda (“tax cuts for rich, job and service cuts for the rest”), so the “Committee to Starve NY” welcomed them with messages like “Yachts, Not Jobs!” and people from across the state amplified this message on Twitter via the #99NY hashtag. Here’s a write-up (via 99NY) and a picture (via CANY).

On this week where residents of America traditionally gather to give thanksgiving for the year behind them and ahead of them, the Buffalo News rings in with a timely editorial in support of the Millionaires Tax in NY, clarifying that, “The tax recognizes that no one became rich in a vacuum. | The 99% Have Messages. The 1% Have Addresses. |
New Deal for New York has long been looking at how the Committee to Scam Save NY is pushing for tax cuts for the richest 1% and service and job cuts for everyone else. We’ve worked with allies to do research on who they are and how they game the system. We’ve filed ethics complaints about their activities. We’ve visited them at their parties, at their homes, and this Thursday we may visit even them in Albany.
But for those who haven’t been able to join us in person — and even if you have — send an online message directly to New York’s 1%. Courtesy of a small army of angered 99%ers, check out
this cool project that lets you send messages right to the 1% in our very own backyard — the Committee to ‘Save’ New York.
Make your voice heard by New York’s Austerity Mongers: lobbyists who would rather see a child go homeless and a teacher fired than see their friends in the 1% pay their fair share in taxes. Find a new friend below and fill them in on what you think they need to hear. Share your special story with someone who has our Governor’s ear. Here are two ways you can get your story to them.
Option 1: Pen Pals- Make your voice heard by New York’s Austerity cheerleaders who relentlessly push tax cuts for Corporate CEOs who increasingly ship American jobs overseas. Find a new friend below and fill them in on what you think they need to hear. Share your special story with someone who has our Governor’s ear.
Option 2: Best Friends Forever- If you’re feeling even more generous, why not reach out in a more creative way? Click on the name of your brand new BFF below, then read the instructions and examples to get inspired. Maybe your Austerity Monger needs some kind words, or maybe an intervention. Most importantly, use your imagination!
